Celtic Metal from Wales UK
About Bluehorses
From the myth and magic of the forests and mountains of Wales comes the formidable sound of Bluehorses new 5th studio album ‘’Thirteen Fires’.
Fronted by Irish/Welsh gothess Lizzie Prendergasts’ vocals, electric violin and electric Celtic harp, Bluehorses music is a genuine swaggering hybrid of Celtic (and occasionally) English folk, rock and metal. Their unique blend of styles with strong use of melody and infectious singalong choruses appeals to a wide range of listeners, from out and out folkies to classic rock fans, goth and metalhead alike.
They love folk and their own traditional music, but they love to rock even more and the strength of their conviction alone is pretty irresistible. Energy levels are dizzying, with blazing bursts of reels, crunching metal guitar riffs, double kick-drums and lots of convincing hollering.
Lizzies’ vocal is powerful, but can also be a haunting thing, lending credence to the doom laden lyric. From heart-rending anthem to big, belt-’em-out rocker via gothic chiller, her voice has a raw edge in a modern style, without those tedious folksy affectations that plague so many bands in this genre.
The themes are often dark and evocative, but Bluehorses’ reputation as a good-time live band who take no prisoners and send you home sweaty is amply demonstrated here.
Co-founder Nic Waulkers big breathtaking arrangements and ferociously precise drumming hold the mayhem together, while Jay MacDonald isn’t afraid to pile on the brash and brave wall-of-sound guitars. Jay also thumped out the pulsating bass lines on Thirteen Fires.
Formed in Celtic Wales UK in the mid nineties the band have stormed festivals in every country of Western Europe, Scandinavia and the UK. They’ve received many accolades including a MOJO ‘Album of the Month’ and a Classic Rock Society ‘Best of’ Award. Bluehorses have made many TV and radio appearances, most treasured being two live performances on the legendary Radio Caroline, the most recent a full concert live from the Cambridge Rock Fest during the summer of 2007.
